by mark anthony at 2014-07-16 06:24:00

A cheesecake is one of the best inventions of mankind. The way the cheese melts in your mouth, the heavenly feeling of the smooth texture, the varieties existing in the world, waiting to be tasted. A cheesecake is not just a dessert; it is a pure indulgence of the senses.

Icing on the cake

While a cheesecake might be good on its own, it is the toppings that make it better. The best toppings for cheesecakes are fruits, chocolate, caramel or fruit sauces or more creative and unique ones that have an exotic appeal.
Fruits like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, pomegranates, pineapples and cherries will be best toppings if you want to go for fruit. Mix and match to find out which topping complements the flavor of the cheesecake and which supplements it.
Chocolate is a favorite topping the world over and you can almost never go wrong with it. Chocolate sauce with mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings will go with any similarly flavored cheesecake.
Topping choices can also be a bit different than the norm. Pecans, mandarin oranges, lightly flavored whipped cream with fruit syrups or even peanut butter or Nutella will get your taste buds tingling in no time. Christmas, Thanksgiving or even a simple get-together, everyone present will always love some cheesecake. If you are in Brooklyn, cheesecakes are just a phone call away. Circos, a fine Italian Bakery makes some mouth-watering cheesecakes offered with a variety of toppings.

Pastries to Bring to a Summer BBQ
by mark anthony at 2014-07-02 06:17:00

Summer is the time to eat sweets, and honey balls perfectly fit the bill. Not only are they tasty, but they are also much healthier compared to other sweets. A Neapolitan treat, they frequently hog the lion's share of many Brooklyn summer BBQ pastry trays. Honey balls are essentially fried fritters filled with honey and candy sprinkles. The outer crunchy texture conceals a soft gooey interior. Circos in Brooklyn has great honey balls that will be perfect for a summer BBQ. Alternately, you can also try your own hand at making them.

The ingredients to make honey balls

You need six eggs, one cup filled with sugar, four cups filled with flour, three tablespoons of baking soda, a cup filled with honey, vegetable oil and candy sprinkles.

Preparing delicious honey balls

First, whisk the eggs and the butter together in a bowl. The flour and the baking powder must be sieved before the two are mixed in the eggs and butter blend. The dough should be mixed until it turns soft.

Divide the dough into four parts and then roll each of them into ropes about a foot in length. The dough “ropes” should be about half inch thick. Cut the ropes into pieces about one inch in length. Dust them with flour and fry them until the pieces become puffed and golden brown.

Use spoons to remove the pieces from the pan and drain them with paper towels. Mix sugar ad honey and heat the mix until the sugar melts. Use this mixture to coat the just prepared fried dough and put all of them in a big plate. Position them like a pyramid and add candy sprinkles. Wait for the honey balls to cool down for two hours before eating them.

Be patriotic with a flag cake

It is a known fact that Americans are a patriotic bunch and every family comes out to celebrate 4th of July in their own unique way. 4th of July is for outdoor barbeques and Apple pies and celebrating the American way with friends and family. And the main feature of any 4th of July party is the Flag cake made in the colors of the United States flag. Bakeries in Brooklyn sell out of flag cakes on the 4th of July. But if you don’t want to go to a bakery in Brooklyn to get a cake, why not make your own flag cake?

Make your own flag cake

There are different ways of making a flag cake. The simplest way is to make a conventional pound cake and to top it off with fruits to make it look like the American flag. For example, you can bake a large rectangular pound cake in any flavour you want and then frost the whole cake with white icing. For the red portions you can use strawberries and for the white portions you can use blueberries to decorate on the frosting. You can also use food colouring or pureed strawberries and blueberries to colour the cake mixes. After baking, these cake layers can be arranged in an eye-catching manner.

Order a flag cake beforehand from your bakery

If you do not have the time to or skills to bake your own flag cake, then you can easily order one from your nearest bakery. However, you must place an order in advance because everyone wants a flag cake on the 4th of July.

Summer Cake Ideas

Summer designs

Celebrate summer with some inspiration that reminds you of the season. With the help of some fondant and edible markers you can turn an ordinary sponge into a custom cake resembling summer living. For instance you can create a refreshing looking watermelon-slice cake with some red sponge, flattened chocolate chip for the seeds and colored fondant for the rind. Or design it to look like a swimming pool or beach design with blue icing, colored fondant and ready-made boy or girl cupcake toppers.

Go fruity or sub-zero

You are surrounded by fresh fruits, especially berries in summer. One of the best summer cakes is a combination of juicy fruits, freshly whipped cream and a light airy cake. Cool your senses with chilled cakes like cream cheese or mousse. If you own an ice cream maker, you can marry a cake, cream and ice cream by stacking them to form an ice cream cake. With ready-made cake decorations and cupcake toppers it isn’t difficult to turn these summer ideas into yummy custom cakes.

Summer birthday cakes and wedding cakes

Special occasions like birthdays and weddings are particularly catered for by most Brooklyn bakeries. Inspiring ideas to lure kids include rainbow layered cake, sunshine cupcakes, sailboat and butterfly cakes to name a few. Bright colors and fresh cream is always a big hit with kids. Custom cakes for weddings include tropical themes, summer flavors like passion fruit, guava and mango coupled with beautiful edible summer flowers.

An ancient dessert.

Cheesecakes have been around for a long time. One of the earliest mentions of cheesecake was found in a book written by the Greek physician Aegimus. The modern American cheesecake we are familiar with was discovered almost accidentally. While trying to recreate the French cheese Neufchâtel, William Lawrence invented what we now refer to as the cheesecake.

A cheesecake generally consists of at least two and sometimes three layers. The top layer is made of cream cheese and the bottom layer is a sort of a crust. Over the years the variety of flavours and toppings available with cheesecakes has grown exponentially.

No limit to topping ideas

Toppings on cheesecakes can be as simple as fruits and nuts, and as exotic as fruit syrups, key lime, chestnut, and even coffee. Any seasonal fresh fruit can be used a cheesecake topping. Strawberry, lychee, mango, blackcurrant, passion-fruit, raspberry, etc are all used as cheesecake toppings.

Cheesecake for special moments

If you have planned a get together at your Brooklyn home, what better way to make your loved ones happy than some mouth watering cheesecake. Be it thanksgiving, Christmas or any other festival, some delicious cheesecake will make everyone's tastebuds tingle. Try out different toppings. You can also design the topping based on the festival to add that special effect.
